What is MCPC/PSMA™:
MCPC/PSMA stands for Multiple Channels Per Carrier and Packet Switching Multiple Access.
MCPC/PSMA provides multiple accesses via direct IP packet switching in a VSAT network from one node to another without other layers of multiplexing. Conventional IP over TDMA adds another layer of multiplexing, which requires additional overhead that wastes transponder bandwidth.
Advantage of MCPC/PSMA™:
IP packet switching and routing became today's de facto standards of digital network communication methods. Packet switching groups all transmitted data, regardless of content, type, or format, into blocks of variable bit-rate data streams. In a connectionless packet switching, also known as datagram switching, network each packet includes complete addressing or routing information and is routed individually. The connectionless communication mode of SkySwitch® has the advantage over a connection-oriented mode, such as TDMA and FDMA, because of low bandwidth overhead and latency. It also allows for multicast and broadcast operations, which may save even more network resources when the same data needs to be transmitted to several recipients.MCPC/PSMA offers unprecedented channel efficiency advantages over other MCPC VSAT platforms based on different technologies including TDMA and CDMA. There is over 25% channel efficiency improvement over TDMA by eliminating TDMA framing overhead completely. Consider many TDMA systems still experience unavoidable time slot assignment collision overhead, the actual improvement in channel efficiency by MCPC/PSMA system is enormous.
MCPC/PSMA provides a dedicated carrier to every VSAT terminal, while TDMA uses a much larger carrier shared among a number of terminals. Smaller carrier requires smaller RFT (BUC and LNB) and antenna. Depends on required network traffic, the cost saving of RFT using MCPC/PSMA based system can be as high as several folds. This difference results different terminology to specify data capacity in VSAT industry. TDMA systems often use burst rates or carrier information rates as measure of modem or terminal capacity, while MCPC/PSMA systems use data throughput as measure of terminal capacity. In TDMA systems, each VSAT terminal's data throughput is only a small percentage of carrier rate.
MCPC/PSMA by far is the best technology used to support Internet and IP applications for its multimedia capabilities. It can be integrated with any IP networks to provide seamless WAN connection for voice, data and video traffic. Communications implemented with IPSEC or VPN offers secured data transactions. Broadband applications for E-Commerce and enterprise private networks are only possible through MCPC/PSMA technology for its mesh connectivity and high rate capacity over satellite.
MCPC/PSMA technology uses traffic intelligence embedded in every IP packets to determine when, what, where, and how satellite channels should be connected in order to maximize transponder bandwidth utilization, and at the same time to provide subscribers with satisfactory service quality comparable to terrestrial based telecom services. MCPC/PSMA dynamically allocates bandwidth for each VSAT terminal using DAMA/ABOD that is not available in traditional SCPC links. Link QoS is improved for all types of traffic based on weighted and balanced packet, channel, and site priority settings.
